You and Me Make Three

Last night was a lot of fun. I saw some highschool friends I hadn't seen in over a decade, met some new people and did some catching up with others... Great night. And it was snowing when I left!

I was woken up this morning by sunshine, yes sunshine! We haven't seen any since the second day I got here. If that wasn't a sign for a great day, I don't know what would have been! Everything was blanketed with snow, it was gorgeous. And Elana cuddles with me for a long time too.

After lunch I decided to clear out the parking lot and took Elana to play in the snow for a bit. She even helped me. We caught snowflakes with our tongues when it started snowing again, rolled on the ground hoping to turn into snowmen and attempted to build one.

I made her some hot chocolate to warm up and watch huge flakes come down as the storm intensified and, strangely, the sun came through. Gorgeous...

J'ai revu, hier soir, des amis de lycée que je n'avais pas vu depuis plus de 10 ans, rencontré du monde et passé du temps avec des amis, super soirée! Et pour finir en beauté il neigeait quand je suis partie....

Je me suis reveillée ce matin avec les premiers rayons de soleil que nous avons vu depuis le 2ieme jour de notre séjour en Suisse! Tout scintillait sous la neige, c'était magnifique et certainement de bonne augure pour la journée. Elana est venue caliner pendant un bon moment et la journée a très bien commencé.

Après midi, j'ai décidé de pêler le parking, Elana m'a même filer un coup de main avant d'aller découvrir les merveilles du jardin. On a attrapé de gros flocons quand il a recommencé à neiger et avons roulé dans la neige en espérant devenir des bonhomme de neige puisqu'ils étaient impossible à construire avec cette neige.

Avec un bon verre de chocolat chaud on a observe d'énorme flocons tomber de plus en plus vite alors que le soleil faisait son apparition! Super joli

It's about more than cheese.../ La Suisse c'est pas du fromage

Still cloudy outside, actually snowing today, but it's sunny in my mind. I've shared so many wonderful moments with amazing people.

Last weekend we took Elana sledding in Les Breuleux. My dad pulled up up the hill for over a mile and we stopped a few times to build a couple of snowmen. I have to admit that I wasn't in a very outgoing mood because it had been grey for a week, but sledding down with Elana and pulling her back up was as much fun for her than it was for me!

I got to see my godmother, a wonderful and beautiful woman whose kindness only grows with time.

I spent a timeless evening with an old friend, recounting stories and making plans for the future.

The night before I got my girlfriends together for dinner and had spent a fabulous evening in great company.

I felt close to my cousin when I visited her family and really enjoy seeing our girls play together.

Elana and I tried to catch snowflakes on our tongues one evening... And I love watching her have fun and learn to know and love those I love this side of the world.

I won't get to see everyone but I am very happy I could see as many people I was able to spent time with. We had fun all together and I shared special moments with them individually too, I am bringing back great memories and enough smiles to light up many rainy days.

Il fait toujours gris, mais j'ai du soleil dans la tête... Tellement de bons moments partagés avec autant de gens fabuleux pendant ces vacances...

Le weekend passé on a emmené Elana faire de la luge aux Breuleux. J'étais pas vraiment d'humeur avec ce manque de soleil, mais une fois arrivé dans ce paysage hivernal féerique tout est allé mieux! Mon père a tiré Elana sur au moins deux kilomètres à la montée et je me suis beaucoup amusé à redescendre -et remonter- avec Elana. J'suis rentrée de super bonne humeur :-)

J'ai eu la chance de voir ma marraine, une femme dont la bonté ne cesse de grandir.

Le temps a passé trop vite lors d'un souper avec une amie de longue date. On a revisité le passé et fait des projets pour demain...

Le soir d'avant j'ai pu réunir mes amies pour un souper. Des amitiés qui dates de nos années d'école, d'autres retrouvé et sans oublier les amitiés qui commencent... Une soirée fantastique en avec des filles fabuleuses.

J'ai pu partagé plein de choses avec ma chère cousine et j'aime voir nos filles s'amuser ensemble.

Avec Elana on a essayé d'attraper des flocons de neige avec nos langues... J'ai bcp de plaisir à la voir découvrir et aimé les gens qui me sont chers de ce côté de l'Atlantique.

Comme toujours j'aurai pas pu voir tout le monde, mais suis heureuse d'avoir pu passer du temps avec les personnes que j'ai eu la chance de voir. En groupe ou individuellement, j'ai partagé des moments très spéciaux avec des personnes fabuleuses. Je ramène plein de souvenir et assez des sourries pour illuminer ces journées grises...

Where did the sun go?!? / Il est ou ce soleil?!?

Being home is good. It's like comfort food but with everything you do in your day, the people you talk to, the meal you cook and share, the oh-so-comfy couches for late night conversations, the town that doesn't change, the view from this very table, the shared smiles...
Alright, it's also, dinner that's suddenly is ready and laundry that's done and folded for you just like when you were a kid. Though I feel a bit of guilt when it happens without my help. Well you get the idea home is, you know home.

Now if I could have it all, I'd add some sun to the mix. It's been grey for days and while it makes me want to curl up on the couch with a book, an extra large cup of tea and a fire roaring, Elana doesn't quite feel that way... Bring me some sunshine!

Etre à la maison, c'est tout de même bien. Même les p'tites choses de tous les jours deviennent spéciales. Les gens que je vois, les repas préparés et partagés, le salon si comfortable pour les discussions de fin de soirée, la ville qui ne change pas, la vue depuis cette table, les sourires partagés...
Bon c'est aussi les souper qui sont prêts sans mettre les pieds à la cuisine, et la lessive qui arrive toute propre et pliée dans la chambre comme quand on était gosse. Bien que je me sens un peu coupable que ça arrive sans que je donne un coup de main. Mais bon, voilà, sa maison, son chez soi, ça fait toujours beaucoup de bien.

Et si je pouvais tout avoir, j'ajouterais qques rayons de soleil. On est dans la grisaille depuis qques jours et tout ce dont j'ai envie de faire c'est prendre en bouquin, une tasse de thé et me poser sur le canapé devant la cheminée, une activité qui ne semble pas trop plaire à Elana... Alors envoyez-moi un bout d'soleil!

January 6 / La fête des Rois

Ne me demandez pas ce qui m'est passé par la tête, mais j'ai décidé de faire une galettes des rois! Et comme ça se partage une galette des rois, on en a profité pour inviter une bonne équipe à la maison et fêter l'anniversaire de Stéphanie qui ne s'y attendait pas.

Elana a fait la charmeuse bien sur et a décoré les couronnes que les reines du jour ont porté toute la soirée. Nous, on a bien mangé, bien bu, bien ri. Vive la bone companie :-)

Don't ask me what went through my head but I decided I was going to make a Galette des Rois (King's Cake I believe) to celebrate the Epiphany. Well, really to eat cake. And what better way to eat dessert than with friends! So we got a great bunch together for lasagna and dessert and through in an impromptu surprised BD celebration for Stephanie.

Elana decorated crowns which the queens of the day proudly wore all night... Gotta love good company!

California Christmas / Noël en Californie

So we eventually made it to LA and San Diego! A few days late and exhausted but ready for an exciting week!

We walked Christmas Card lane to get in the spirit and I had a blast watching Elana get excited about the amazing displays everyone put up for the Holidays.

Next we went to Seaworld. Elana seemed to remember the park from last summer, but had a completely different experience. It's amazing how much difference a few months can make. She was much more in charge of our visit. Shamu was definitively something she remembered and she stood up during the entire show.

The Pets Rule show was a big surprise to me as I didn't expect it to be any good, but it was actually quite entertaining. Go see it! And of course the playground... Elana had to try it all, running from here to there and back again. Awesome day.

Christmas was just as much fun. I made some yummy French toast and we spent the next couple of hours opening presents. Elana distributed them and helped everyone open theirs. My favorite part was to see how excited she got every time she opened something new - and she got spoiled! Everything was exciting and she wanted to observe it, put it together, try it, play it, use it... It was exactly what Christmas should be about: kids having too much fun!

Though I think she would have gotten a quarter of what she got and she would be been just as happy. Of course, Xmas isn't Xmas without a good meal, my favorite parts: Lobster and the Yule log I decided to make.

Even Elana got her own lobster and was quite curious about it but she spent most of the meal making faces at us.

Since we hadn't been yet we decided to take Elana to the SD Zoo. It was way too crowded for my liking, but Elana got to see some of her favorite animals: elephants, kangaroos, parrots, monkeys, hippos... And the special treat of the day, feeding giraffes! She had no fear but did get intimidated a bit once the giraffe got close!

We wrapped up the week with a fantastic fondue night with the Palmer-Rubin's and some more family time before heading up to LA to catch our flight home. I spent a fantastic night with Iris, catching up and chatting it up. I miss my girl!

See, once we made it there, it was a wonderful winter break!

On est finallement arrivé a San Diego, fatigués mais prêts pour une super semaine de vacances!

On a commencé par une petite promenade un soir dans un quartier ou toute les maisons sont décorées très créativement pour Noël. C'était joli, et j'ai bcp aimé observé Elana découvrir ces scènes féeriques.

On est retourné a Seaworld, c'est impressionant de voir comme Elana a grandit en qques mois. Bien qu'elle se souvenait de Seaworld cette visite était bien differente. Elana savait ce qu'elle veux faire et n'hésite pas se faire entendre!
La place de jeux est très sypma, Elana voulait tout essayer au moins deux fois:-) Super journée

Noël fut merveilleux... Après un délicieux brunch on a passé quelques heures a ouvrir les cadeaux. Elana les a distribués et a aidé tout le monde à les ouvrir. Mon meilleur cadeau fut de la voir découvrir ses cadeaux - elle s'est fait gâtée! Super contente à chaque fois, il fallait sortir, découvrir, essayé, joué... Il en aurait été de même si elle avait reçu qu'un cadeau! L'image typique d'un enfant à Noël et une grosse dose de bonheur pour moi.

Elana a même eu droit à son homard au souper et nous a gratifié des ses meilleures grimaces pendant le repas. Je crois qu'elle était aussi fière que moi de notre bûche de Noël :-)

Puisque'on y était encore pas allé on a profté d'emmener Elana au zoo. Y'avait un peu trop de monde à mon goût, mais Elana a tout de même pu voir ses animaux favoris: Elephants, kangourou, lion, perroquet, hyppopotame... Et la surprise du jour, donner à manger au giraffe. Elle s'est lancée très bravement, mais a tout de même été un peu intimidé...

On a continué les festivités avec une super soirée fondue entre amis et de bons moments en famille avant de remonter sur Los Angeles pour prendre l'avion. J'y ai passé une soirée geniale avec Iris, ah comme elle me manque!

Donc, une fois qu'on est arrivé à San Diego, ce fut de grandes vacances!

Blanketed / En blanc

Après 3 jours de neige le ciel a décidé de nous donner une petite pause, on a même eu droit à qques rayons de soleil!

Elana a construit son premier bonhomme de neige. Il était assez petit car la neige ne tenait pas, et une fois qu'on a eu fini elle me dit: "Fais-en un grand comme ça" en me montrant son papa...

Elle adore la neige, et n'arrive jamais à se relever une fois qu'elle tombe, ce qui arrive assez souvent. Elle prend trois pas et boom parterre (la neige lui arrive tout de même au cuisses) et elle dit "J'suis coincé maman, aides-moi." Je la relève et on recommence 3 pas plus tard...

After 3 days of snow we got a little break, even a few sun rays and headed out!

Elana built her first snowman. It w as a bit small because the snow was pretty dry, so after we finished it she said "Ok, Mom, make a big one now, big like this" showing me her papa...

She loves playing in the snow, but can never get up once she falls which happens a lot. She'll take 3 step and be on her bum (the snow does come up to her thighs) and say "Mom, I'm stuck, help me." So I help her up and we start all over again 3 steps later...

Happy New Year! Bonne Année!

On a passé une journée fabuleuse!

Petit déj sous la neige puis départ pour le Family Festival organisé par Boston First Night. Toute l'après-midi on a vu plein de mini spectacles qui nous ont amusé tout autant qu'Elana.

Les cyclistes acrobates puis le trampoline nous ont époustouflé, Elana n'en croyait pas ses yeux. Un spectacle de danse folklorique, du Japon à la Russie en passant par l'Amérique puis un peu de jonglage humoristique...

Elana a voulu un singe sur sa joue, bon il a l'air bizarre son singe mais ça lui a plus. Ensuite on s'est débattu pour atteindre la table de bricolage ou Elana a céer une très jolie couronne. Elle a contrôlé tout le processus puis tout d'un coup m'a annoncé: finit! Elle était contente de sa création.

Taylor s'y est aussi donné à coeur joie, c'était très mignon et ensemble ils avaient l'air adorable.

Le dernier spectacle qu'on a vu avant d'aller voir le cortège était un groupe de musique africaine. Elana a découvert une nouvelle passion. Elle a commencé à jouer au tambour sur ses jambes, par terre, dans l'air et à danser son soul. C'était magnifique!

Elle m'a gentillement pris la main pour m'amener au côté de la scène ou le chanteur avait invité les enfants. Elle est la seule à être montée!! Je n'en croyais pas mes yeux! Une fois sur scène elle s'est un peu calmé, je ne crois pas qu'elle s'attendait à tout ce monde qui la regardait. Mais j'avoue que je suis très fière de sa décision.

Le cortège était très joli, puis on est descendu à Boston Commons pour un spectacle de patinage artistique et les feux d'artifice. On a dégoté un restaurant très sympa a Chinatown et sur le chemin du retour avons acheté qques délices au chocolat...

Elana est resté debout bien tard, mais Taylor et moi avons pu déguster nos chocolats et qques bon verres pour célébrer la nouvelle année. Journée splendide.

What a fabulous day New Years Eve was!

It started like a perfect day with a light snowfall which we enjoyed on our way to the Family Festival organized by Boston First Night. All afternoon we enjoyed mini performances by all kinds of talented individuals gathered for the occasion.

We saw extreme bike riders and trampoline acrobats, an amazing juggling show and a world festival of dances... Elana got her face painted and we battled our way to the craft table where she created a fantastic crown. She fully participated in the creative process and suddenly said: all done! It was a simple crown, but that was the way she wanted it. Taylor made one also and together they looked ready to party!

Our last show was Drum Central and Elana absolutely loved it! She was up and dancing drumming on her legs, the floor, in the air so happy to be there.It was a wonder to see.

She eventually grabbed my hand and brought me to the side of the stage a few minutes after they'd called for kids to come up and dance. Our little girl, at 2yrs old, was the only child who walked up on stage and took it all in! She did get a bit quieter once she got up there, I don't think she expected the sea of people she saw, but she made a few moves and never lost her cool! Yup, I was very proud of her.

She crashed while we enjoyed the grand procession and woke up in time for the ice skating show and then the fireworks. Dinner was in a great little restaurant in Chinatown - pretty quiet on NYE and a great find!

Elana stayed up pretty late, but we still got to enjoy the specialty chocolate we'd bought on the way home along with just as many adult beverages. A great way to welcome the new year. It was a splendid day!
