Promenade à Cheval / Horseback Riding

Je commence à pensé que les visites de familles nous offres non seulement l'occasion de passer un peu de temps tous ensemble mais aussi de passer du temps partagé seul avec Taylor.
Pour fêter nos 6 mois de mariage, on a décidé d'aller faire un tour a cheval. Sunset Hollywood Ranch se trouve juste en dessous du fameux signe et avec un guide on s'est promener qques heures dans les collines en dessus de Los Angeles. C'est tout de meme immense! J'ai beaucoup aimer un endroit en redescendant au ranch ou on se trouvait un peu plus haut et derriere l'observatoire de Griffith qui surblomble la ville. Très joli.... Par contre pas de photos, j'ai vite compris que la photo à cheval sa demande plus d'expérience que ce que j'ai!

Après être retourné au ranch, on a déguster un bon repas sous les étoiles avec un cowboy qui chantait pas trop mal avec sa guitare malgré les poans qui s'y mettaient aussi!

So to celebrate our 6mo anniversary, we decided to go horseback riding in the Hollywood hills. Our tour took us up and down the hills giving us amazing views of the cityscape. One of my favorite spots was a small stretch we rode on slightly higher and behind the Griffith Observatory overlooking L.A. Beautiful! No pics though, because it took me no time to figure out that picture taking on a horse requires more skills than I have!

Once we got back to the ranch we enjoyed a nice dinner under the stars and listen to a wannabe cowboy with a pretty decent voice and guitar skills. Even the stubborn peacock cry didn't take away from it!

Traveling back in time / Voyage dans le temps

With Elana wearing just a cloth diaper, we all sat down around the table, brought out the eggs we cooked earlier this afternoon and watched Elana experience something new.
By the look of her face you'd have never known how much fun she was having. Total focus and concentration was all that she was showing. Yet, she asked for egg after egg as she excitedly, though sternly, grasped the concept of Easter Egg decorating. She put her whole being into it, determine to discover how to hold the egg while getting the paint and then apply it exactly how she wanted it.
She thought about the mix of colors she should use and whether sponging or finger painting would be best. Taylor and I watched and enjoyed the moment for all that it was: our daughter's very first Easter Eggs.

Elana ne portant qu'une couche en cotton, on s'est tous assis autour de la table pour décorer les oeufs qu'on avait cuit l'après-midi et observer Elana découvrir quelque-chose de nouveau.
A regarder son visage, on n'aurait jamais dis qu'elle passait un bon moment. Elle ne montrait que du sérieux et de la concentration. Et pourtant elle demandait avec passion qu'on lui donne un oeuf après l'autre pour le décorer. Elle y a mis du 100%, déterminée à découvrir comment tenir l'oeuf tout en prenant la peinture qu'elle avait choisi et l'appliquer exactement où elle voulait.
Elle refléchissait aux couleurs qui lui plaisait et décidait s'il fallait mieux peindre à l'éponge ou aux doigts. Taylor et moi avons observé et profité du moment: les premiers oeufs de Pâques de notre fille.

A day long date with my hubby! / Une journée rien qu'avec mon mari!

De temps en temps un peu d'égoisme ça fait du bien! J'ai donc organisé un petit weekend a San Diego ou Elana pouvait passer la journée avec ses grands-parents pendant que Taylor et moi profitaient l'un de l'autre.

On a commencé la journée avec un excursion en kayak le long de la cote de La Jolla. Il y a 7 caves que l'on peut explorer si les vagues le permettent. On a eu la privilège d'avoir un guide a nous tout seule qui nous a fait un tour un peu plus long que prevu.
Les vagues etaient assez hautes et on s'est fait rinser en les traversant des le départ! L'autre kayak a eu du mal à traverser et ils ont abandonné la visite avant qu'elle est vraiment commencée.
Malheureusement, l'océan était trop houleux pour nous permettre de visiter les caves mais on a eu pu voir des élephants de mer. Notre guide nous a emmené decouvrir une forêt d'algues géantes ou, à notre grande surprise, nous nous sommes retrouvé au milieu des dauphins! On les a admiré jouer autour de nous et une fois qu'ils se sont remis en routes les avons suivi a distance un petit moment avant de retourner à la plage en surfant les vagues.

On s'est fait un déjeuner privé dans un restaurant marrocain à la Jolla avant de descendre a San Diego. Et la un petit coup shopping sympa avant d'aller voir "Duplicity". On s'est ensuite rendu au Café Seville pour une paëlla, une bonne sangria et un spectacle de flamenco. Super journee quoi!

Samedi, toute la famille est allee au champs de fleurs a Carlsbad...

Every so often, it feels right to be a bit selfish! So I organized a roadtrip for Taylor and I to be able to enjoy each other's company and for Elana and her grandparents to spend some time together.

We started our day with a kayak excursion in La Jolla, there are 7 caves you can discover when it's safe to do so. We got drenched going through the surf, but were luckier than the other couple who capsized too many times to count and eventually gave up, giving us the opportunity to have our very own private tour. The waves were unfortunately too big to allow us to safely paddle through the caves, but we did get to see them from a distance and observe seals and sea lions before heading out to a giant kelp forest. Our guide was telling us about the plants, who are the second fastest growing plants after bamboo, when suddenly a pod of dolphins graced us with their amazing presence. They swam and jumped all around us for some time before continuing their route. What an experience! We followed them at a distance for some time before heading back to shore and learning how to kayak surf too!

We then had a very private lunch at a tasty Moroccan restaurant in La Jolla and later headed down to San Diego for some shopping and a movie showing (Duplicity) Taylor is fun to shop with :-)

We wrapped up the nigh paella and sangria at Cafe Seville and enjoyed a great flamenco show. An awesome day!

Aleem's Wedding

J'étais tres touché quand Aleem m'a invité a célebre son marriage il y a quelques semaines, et je n'avais aucune idee a quoi m'attendre même après avoir rechercher ce qu'est une nikkha et un valima!

Vendredi soir était la Nikkha, organisé par les parents de la mariée, Mehwish. Alors que les invités de la mariée étai coridalement invité a prendre place dans la salle de bal, nous devions attendre l'arrivée d'Aleem pour l'escorter dans la salle.
Une fois que nous etions tous assis (plus de 450 invités!) Aleem et les hommes de la famille ont participer a la ceremonie de marriage. Les femmes de la famille se sont aussi approchée aprés s'être couvert la tête. C'est seulement après cela, que Mehwish est arrivée au bras de son père portant un magnifique sari rouge et or. Elle a rejoint Aleem sur un canapé ou famille et amis sont allés les féliciter.

Pour montrer son respect à sa nouvelle famille et sa tristesse à la pensée de quitter sa famille elle n'a jamais levé les yeux et a regardé par terre toute la soirée.

Toutes les femmes dans l'assemblée portaient des sari colorée et magnifiquement décoré. J'etais la seule à porter une robe...

Aleem et sa femme sont originaires du Paskitan, il y avait donc pas d'alcool mais un buffet de nourriture pakistanaise délicieuse et la soiree est passée tellement vite qu'on est rentré bien plus tard que prevu... Elana c'est beaucoup amusée a courir autour des tables. J'étais donc a sa poursuite pour ne pas la perdres dans cette immense salle!

La celebration de dimanche était organisée par les parents d'Aleem. C'était une grande réunion de famille et d'amis ou les mariés ont été presenté une fois de plus. J'y ai retrouvé un ancien ami de l'uni!

Aleem et sa femme, qui de nouveau portait un superbe sari, avait une petite table sur une scene ou Elana aimait beaucoup allé se promner... Elle a aussi tres rapidement decouvert qu'il y avait une fontaine dans le lobby de l'hotel et courrait là-bas toutes les cinq minutes. Cela m'apprendra a mettre des talons hauts quand je sors avec ma fille!


Tout le monde était très aimable et j'étais contente de pouvoir célebrer cette occasion avec Aleem et sa famille.

I was reallz touched when Aleem invited me and my family to attend his wedding. But even I tried to read up on what a Nikkha and a Valima are, I really didn't know what to expect!

Friday night was organised by the brides's family. Over 450 guests filled a huge banquet hall and while the guests of the bride were invited to take their seat in the room, guests of the groom were asked to wait for his arrival and escort him in the room before taking our seats.
He looked like prince!
Once we were all seated, Aleem and the men of his family took part in the ceremony and only once that was over did his beautiful bride, Mehwish, arrive. She was wearing the most exquisite red and gold sari and looked like a goddess!
She joined Aleem on a raised platform where family and friends paid their respects for the rest of the evening. Mehwish kept her gaze down the entire evening to show respect and signal sadness to the family she is leaving to start her own.

Every woman in the attendance wore colorful and adorned saris. I believe I was the only one wearing western clothes!
We were served traditional, and delicious, Pakistani food and left much later than we anticipated!
Elana had a great time too running around and in between the tables. So I spent some time too running after her, afraid we would lose her in the big room!
It was a beautiful celebratory evening!

Sunday night was Aleem's Valima, organized by his father. It was a huge family and friend reunion where the bride, looking just as beautiful, and groom were introduced once more. I even found an old college friend of mine!
The newlywed couple was again seated on a raised platform on which Elana loved to climb when she wasn't running off to the hotel lobby where she got drenched playing with the water fountain... That meant, I was running after her too! Lesson learned: don't wear high heels when going out with your toddler!

We met many wonderful people and I was very happy to be able to celebrate such an event with Aleem and his family!
